SCHOOL DAYS

Year-End Greetings and Preparations

Posted on Dec. 15, 2022

After a whole year of hustling and bustling, it’s finally time for 2022 to run its course and 2023 to begin. Here are a few things you might want to do at school before the countdown!

Firstly, please make sure to wrap up any unfinished tasks at the school. English boards, unchecked papers, anything at all that needs to be completed should be done before your last day at the school. Once you’ve done with that, please try to do your own spring-cleaning with your desk and English room too, like dusting off your working station and recycling unused materials. We all want to start the new year with everything neat and well-organised, so let’s try to plan our schedule to be able to finish everything in time!

Secondly, please check your schedule for January carefully and finish any plannings needed for the first week. It usually is very hectic during the first week of the semester, so maybe it’s best to try and squeeze in those meetings with the HRT/JTE in advance now while you can. If you cannot find the opportunity to meet everyone, a sticky note on their table goes a long way. Remember, some schools change their entire schedule every new semester, including lessons starting / finishing time every semester, so let’s be safe and check everything to prevent issues on your first day of the year.

Once you’ve settled everything, don’t forget to thank your students and say “See you next year!” to them at the end of your last English lesson with each grade. You can also teach the little ones to say “Happy Holidays” and “Enjoy the break”. Lastly, don’t forget to bid farewell to your fellow teachers and thank them for their support in 2022. Here are some common Japanese phrases you can use to express yourself in this situation:

Kotoshi mo iroiro osewani narimashita.

今年も 色々 お世話に なっておりました。

ことしも いろいろ おせわに なっておりました。

Thank you for all your support this past year.

Rainen mo issho ni oshigoto o sasete itadakeruno o tanoshimi ni shite imasu.

来年もよろしくお願いします。

(らいねんも よろしく おねがいします。)

Please take care of me next year too.

And last but not least, before you leave the school, it’s a good chance to bring your personal items like toothbrush set, cardigans, cups & tumblers, or indoor shoes home for a wash if you haven’t been doing it regularly.

On behalf of RCS Corporation, we would like to wish you all a happy winter break, and thank you for all your contributions in 2022. Please stay safe, enjoy yourself, and we will see you again in 2023!
